Cinnamon Used an antidote to diarrhoea & stomach upsets. Also given to women in labour as a sedative.
Coriander Coriander seeds were chewed as a breath sweetener. They can also be ground into a paste for application to skin and mouth ulcers.
Cumin Regarded as an appetite stimulant & used to ease stomach disorders, flatulence, colic and diarrhoea.
Cloves Used as an antidote to toothache
Nutmeg An aid to digestion & an aphrodisiac
Allspice Used as an antiseptic & for flatulence
Peppers Aid for nausea
Salt A salt water gargle is a traditional source of relief when a cold threatens or for a sore throat
Ginger Helps poor circulation & is taken as a drink for coughs, nausea & influenza
Thyme Helps in the digestion of fatty foods
Bay leaf The acid from the leaves is suppose to discourage moths & it is an appetite stimulant
